Spike Movie Update
Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon told WizardUniverse.com that the long-anticipated TV movies based on Buffy characters Spike and others are "probably not going to happen" and added that "I think money is standing in the way." Source: Scifi Wire

Whedon has problems with Wonder Woman
IGN ran a report June 20 with a few interesting quotes from Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly) regarding the upcoming Warner Brothers film Wonder Woman.  Apparently Whedon is having some problems with the script:

"I am having enormous trouble with the script," said Whedon. "It's going very well and I'm loving life, but because it's only at script stage and there will be no discussion of casting before, I don't really deal with that. No, it's weird, I'm in my office and it's just me."

"It's kept me busy for a long time. I'm finally finishing the second draft. I'm very happy with it, but wow! Wow, this one was like pulling teeth. It's tough. I would watch Batman Begins and just grumble, just bitch and moan, because he's got everything. He's got so much of the work done for him. He's got the best rogues' gallery. He's got the best origin story. Wonder Woman is a lot more to figure out. But it's coming together."

Amy Acker Joins Alias *Spoilers*
The "Angel/Alias" connection continued on Thursday, Oct. 13, with the debut of former "Angel" regular Amy Acker on ABC's "Alias," playing Kelly Preston, a member of a rogue spy organization headed by the nefarious Gordon Dean (Tyrees Allen).
Acker now finds herself working for executive producer Jeffrey Bell, who took over as show-runner on "Angel" after the departure of Tim Minear, who went to work on "Firefly" with "Angel" co-creator Joss Whedon. Also on hand is "Alias" producer Drew Goddard, who previously worked on "Lost" (the other show from "Alias" creator J.J. Abrams) and Whedon's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," which gave birth to "Angel."

Also, Acker is working with Rachel Nichols, who plays Preston's former colleague -- and now foe -- Rachel Gibson, who has discovered she's not working for the good guys after all. Nichols came to "Alias" after a stint on FOX's short-lived crime drama "The Inside," created by Tim Minear.

"I saw Tim at the 'Serenity' premiere," Acker says ("Serenity" is the feature film based on "Firefly"). "I said, 'I'm working with your girl.' The whole crew of 'Angel' was on 'The Inside,' so we keep finding people we know in common."
Although it took a while to come to fruition, Acker first auditioned for "Alias" back when she was on "Angel." At the time, her character, science geek Fred, had transformed into a blue-skinned demon called Illyria. Acker was trying for the role of Nadia, sister of super-agent Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner), a part eventually taken by Mia Maestro.

"I actually had to go to the audition right from 'Angel,'" Acker says. "We had a break, and I was in the blue makeup. I had to drive across town in the blue makeup and go in.

"That was the first time that I met all those guys, but we kept in touch since that. So I was just happy they asked me to do it."

Because she was working long hours on "Angel," Acker didn't get a chance to see much of "Alias," but she caught up quickly.

"I borrowed the DVDs from my friends and made my husband" -- actor James Carpinello -- "watch five episodes of 'Alias' every day, so we're caught up. It's great."

Acker soon learned that attention must be paid if a viewer has any hope of following the convoluted "Alias" storylines. "James missed a couple in the middle, and I said, 'I can't explain it. Just go with it.'"

In the great "Alias" tradition, Acker is doing fight scenes, something she already got to do on "Angel," and something she's trained for.

"In college," she says, "I did three years of fight training. We did rapier and dagger, broadsword, quarterstaff and an animal kung fu style. I thought it was fun.

"I've had a little experience. I've been trying to figure out how to become more believable as a fighter, but not picking fights in bars or anything."

Acker also got to participate in the show's signature pyrotechnics.

"I blew something up," she says. "I didn't get to actually see the explosion, but I did get to cause an explosion. It's nice, very powerful. You never know what they're going to do. It's like with Joss, you can feel like you're getting to play so many different parts, but you only have to audition for one job."

Right now, Acker is scheduled for 7 to 9 episodes, but she's game for more, saying, "I'm having a great time. I'll stay on it for as long as they'll keep me." Source - Zap2it

Cult leader upsizes
Hunted ... the cast of Serenity. BUFFY the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon is back with another tale of a butt-kicking babe battling gory ghouls and inner demons - but this time his legion of fans can take some of the credit, and he's only too happy for it to stay that way.

He jetted into Sydney on the weekend and one of the first things he did on arrival was to invite fans to join him for a few beers.
Whedon's futuristic action-adventure film Serenity marks his big screen directorial debut after creating the TV mega-hits Buffy and spin-off Angel.

But Serenity was only made when another series, Firefly, was axed after only 11 episodes.Distraught fans launched a massive online campaign to resurrect the show and its cult status was confirmed with record DVD sales.

The buzz was enough to make film studio executives sit up and take notice - and throw the series a big-screen lifeline. And Whedon's the first to embrace these loyal followers.  "They've proven themselves to be an extraordinary bunch of people," he said.

"They are a real community in the old sense of the word, and that's something that's very exciting."  The film, set 500 years from now, follows the crew of the transport ship Serenity.

They find themselves hunted by a military alliance and cannibals known as Reavers when they agree to shelter a pair of fugitives including the butt-kicking, telepathic River Tam, who is being chased by the alliance.

The Oscar-nominated writer/director is no stranger to cinema, with a long career as a Hollywood "script doctor" called on by film producers to sex-up sleepy scripts. His previous work includes films such as Speed, Alien: Resurrection and Toy Story . But adapting his TV series for the big screen was the toughest challenge of Whedon's career.

"The challenge is really the difference between TV and movies, where (on) TV you have a great deal of time to examine things and let them unfold - unless you're on Fox - and with movies you really have to hit them in the jugular every single time," he said.

And then there's the challenge of pleasing the fans, who played such a crucial part in backing the film. "I'm literally serving two masters and they are exact opposites," he said.  "I have to do something that doesn't contradict or repeat what I've done on the series, I have to make something that honours the fans - who had so much to do with the thing getting off the ground in the first place - at the same time I absolutely have to ignore their existence."

Those fans are already anticipating Whedon's next feisty female flick - he's signed on to write and direct Wonder Woman.

And the local contingent may have another chance to join their hero for a beer, with word the superhero remake will be filmed in Australia.

"It's very possible ... it could well happen," he said. Serenity opens in cinemas nationwide on September 29.   www.news.com.au

Buffy's naked ambition
Ready ... Sarah Michelle Gellar SEXY Sarah Michelle Gellar wants to strip off on the big screen in a bid to be taken seriously around Tinseltown.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer babe reportedly wants go in the buff before she hits 30 so fans can see her before gravity starts to hit.
The 28-year-old is trying to ditch her teen idol image and apparently thinks she'll score better roles if she bares all on-screen.

"I am approaching 30 and I need a change," UK website femalefirst.co.uk quoted her as saying.

"The sort of roles I would like are not being offered, so this ... might just shock people into choosing me."

Gellar is just the latest star to confess her naked ambition.

Meanwhile, Gellar fans may have to wait a while for her daring debut.

She is set to star in Southland Tales, the follow-up release for Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly, with rumours she will play a porn star.

She has also just signed on for the lead in Alice, a psychological thriller with a modern spin on the Lewis Carroll classic Alice in Wonderland - a role unlikely to require too many revealing moments.

Ejiofor Plays Bad In Serenity
Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays the main villain in the upcoming SF movie Serenity, told SCI FI Wire that he enjoyed working with writer-director Joss Whedon on the big-screen version of Whedon's canceled Fox TV series, Firefly. The film reunites the cast of Whedon's show, including Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk and Morena Baccarin, and features Ejiofor in the pivotal role of a character referred to simply as The Operative. "You know, Joss is just a terrific talent," Ejiofor said in an interview while promoting his new film, Woody Allen's Melinda and Melinda. "And if you've seen any of his TV shows, his line of science fiction is very intelligent and drama- and character-based. That's what he brought to this."

Like Firefly, Serenity centers on the crew of a salvage ship 500 years in the future. "I'd read the script, and I thought it was great," Ejiofor said. "I hadn't really thought of doing science fiction, but just reading the script was really inspiring. I thought it was great." Asked to describe The Operative, Ejiofor said, "I'm just hunting them down, basically."

The role is a major change of pace for the British actor, who's best known his dramatic works in such films as Amistad, Dirty Pretty Things and She Hate Me. "It's so different from anything I've done," Ejiofor said. "Like I say, SF and all that involves martial arts and wires and green screens. It's a whole different world in terms of the acting experience." source scifiwire

New Movies For Buffy Stars In Aussie Theatres Now
Check out Seth Greens new comedy "Without a Paddle" and also Stephanie Romanov stars in "The Final Cut"

"Buffy" Brain Drained
Buffy Summers and her boyfriend Angel survived many a murderous enemy in their TV days.

But their tube papa, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel series creator Joss Whedon, is ending his tube career partly because of a more obnoxious demon: the glut of reality shows on TV airwaves.

Whedon, who has also written big-screen projects like Toy Story and Alien: Resurrection, asked 20th Century Fox TV to let him end his multiyear deal to develop projects for the studio, Variety reports, and Whedon cites unscripted tube fare as one of his reasons.

"I have a bitter taste in my mouth with where TV has gone in the past five years," he told Variety, labeling the reality TV craze "loathsome."

Whedon, who ends his deal with Fox with more than a year left on his contract, also admits he's booking some personal time for the upcoming birth of his second child, and that, for now, he's simply run out of ideas for new shows. read full article

Boreanaz Finds Life After 'Angel' 'Easy'
Now that David Boreanaz has ended his WB series "Angel," he's turning to a life of crime.   The 35-year-old actor joins Henry Thomas in the indie heist film "The Hard Easy," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project centers on Roger (Boreanaz), a shady stock trader whose losses may land him in jail, who agrees to join a team of robbers to steal from a jewelry store. The same day, lowlife gambler Paul (Thomas) also has his own plans to rob the store in order to get out of debt.

Joining the two are Vera Farmiga, who plays a woman bent on avenging her father's death, and Bruce Dern, who plays an ex-military man who joins the gang.

Ari Ryan will make his directorial debut on the project that will shoot in Los Angeles.

Thomas, 33, is best known for playing Elliott in "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial." He recently appeared in "Gangs of New York" and "I Capture the Castle" and next joins the ensemble cast of rock dramedy "Vinyl," which begins shooting Sept. 22.

Boreanaz recently completed his run as the vampire with a soul on "Angel," which spun off from creator Joss Whedon's popular "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" series. He last appeared on the big screen in the horror thriller "Valentine."  source zap2it

WHEDON LANDS ON THE X?
About a month ago, Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind Joss Whedon publicly declared an interest in taking on the next X-Men movie now that Bryan Singer has traded mutants for a cape and a big "S". Was someone at Fox listening?

If the industry newscatcher Production Weekly is to be believed (and I'm told they're rarely wrong, if ever), ears were indeed open, and wise decisions were made. According to them, Whedon is onboard to direct X3, with the production gearing up in Vancouver next June.   read full article

Boreanaz Denies Rumors
Former Angel star David Boreanaz denied to SCI FI Wire several rumors swirling on the Internet involving his casting in some high-profile projects. The latest buzz had Boreanaz attached to the fourth Indiana Jones film in development. But Boreanaz said in an interview that the talk is incorrect, even though he would love to be considered for it. "That goes up there with the Superman and Batman rumors," he said. "It would be something I would die to do. Harrison [Ford] is a big idol, and I'd love to take the path that he took. That would be fantastic."

The most recent rumor says that Boreanaz will play the lead in a proposed fourth Jurassic Park movie. That rumor appeared on Dark Horizons.

Boreanaz did confirm that his next film will be the non-genre movie The Hard Easy with Henry Thomas.     source scifiwire

Catching Up With Seth Green
New movie, Without a Paddle
We knew Seth Green was a versatile actor, but who knew he was such a great impressionist. In his new movie, Without a Paddle, he nails C3PO’s voice, and in the interview, he started off by imitating Nick Nolte. It had nothing to do with the film, but it was spot on.
Green plays part of a trio of friends on one last hurrah, a camping trip in honor of their deceased fourth friend. Green’s character is the one who’s afraid of everything, but pushed to overcome through comedy high jinks.  read full interview here

SFX To Bankroll Scooby Doo Franchise
SFX are set to finance another sequel to Scooby-Doo - so they can continue to print covers of Sarah Michelle Gellar dressed in nothing but lingerie.

"We looked into financing a Buffy spin-off, made in Britain with a low budget and a small cast," explained office skivvy Ian Berriman, "but we blew our entire budget on the Stateside phonecall. It's Sarah's fault, she kept us on hold for bloody ages - oh, but we still do love her so!"

"Anyway, we managed to convince Hanna Barbera and the Arts Council here in the UK that we would be able to make a great job of a third Scooby film, and it's in her contract that Sarah has to appear in it! Ha ha!"

Given the low budget, the film will have to cut down on the CGI, so the role of Scooby will be played by Dave Golder's pet labrador instead (or Guy Hayley, time permitting).

The print schedule for SFX over the next twelve months is as follows:-

April: 'Scooby-Doo 3 is gooooooow owww!' Full cover photo of Sarah Michelle Gellar holding a torch.
May: 'Doggy Style' Full cover photo of Sarah Michelle Gellar wearing brown suede and staring moodily into camera on all-fours.
June: 'Scooby Snacks! Sarah Michelle Gellar heads a line-up of your Top 100 Cult TV Stars Who Like To Eat!' Full page cover photo of Sarah Michelle Gellar draped over the table of a 50s diner.
July: 'Spider-Man 2 - The Inside Scoop - PLUS - more EXCLUSIVE news on Scooby-Doo 3!!' Full page cover photo of Sarah Michelle Gellar wearing a Tobey McGuire t-shirt.

Possible TV movies for Buffy and Angel
As the fall TV season gears up, Buffy and Angel fans await news of TV movies based on their beloved series. Even Joss Whedon hasn’t heard anything official, but rest assured he would be able to produce movies in the “Buffyverse” even if Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz would not return.
“I haven’t really heard anything,” Whedon said. “Obviously, there’s been a regime change at WB. The fans are interested, I’m interested. I don't think either Sarah or David would want to do it but there’s about 10 other character I can name who would be totally worthy of movies. I’m just waiting for somebody to say yay or nay.”

Whedon could not commit to writing or directing such a project, but said, “I would certainly be involved. I would never let one of those stories be told without overseeing it.”  The long-rumored Buffy animated series may still have life too. “A presentation is being made. It hasn’t been bought anywhere, but it’s still in the creating stages so it’s still a possibility.”   source about.com

Joss Whedon Denies X-Men 3 Rumors
No official offer, but the desire is there
In more Joss Whedon news, despite internet buzz that he is in line to take over the third X-Men film since Bryan Singer left to do Superman, Whedon said, “Nobody has approached me about the X-Men franchise.”
That doesn’t mean he hasn’t thought about it. “Would I like to make an X-Men movie? That would be bitchin’. I actually really like those actors and I really like those characters and I think there’s a lot that could be done with it and it would be a romp. But I’m not setting my sights on that.” source about.com

Salt In The Wounds For 'ANGEL' Fans?
Fans of the WB's late "Angel" probably won't be appeased, but WB chairman Garth Ancier's now saying that the show might have had a chance to return for a sixth season if creator Joss Whedon hadn't pushed for an early decision from the network on its return and the network had waited until May to decide on its fate along with the rest of its fall schedule.

Not that it changes anything now. Spilled milk (OK, blood) and all that.  Ancier indicated he still has hope for one or more "Angel" movies, however.  Whedon, he said, appears to be willing. Philadelphia's David Boreanaz, who starred as the vampire with a soul, "will take a little more coaxing, but I think he will do it," Ancier said. source www.pnionline.com

Firefly Gets Big In Serenity
Alan Tudyk, who plays the space pilot Wash in the upcoming SF movie Serenity, told SCI FI Wire that the movie based on Fox's canceled TV show Firefly is now shooting and will be bigger and better, with a story that picks up on the show's mythology. "I can say this, and I can't say much, because [writer/director] Joss [Whedon] would kill me," Tudky said in an interview. "In the TV show, if you know it, the characters of River [Summer Glau] and Simon [Sean Maher] were some of the people on board the ship [and] are wanted by the law. And it got us into trouble a lot. They're still wanted by the law in the movie. But the Alliance, the law, assigns a guy to catch her, who's really, really good at his job. That's all I can say." The "guy" is called simply The Operative and is played by British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (Amistad).

As for the movie, Tudyk said, "It is bigger [than the TV show], yeah. Our costumes are cooler. Our ship is the same, although it's actually a little bit cooler." Tudyk added, with tongue in cheek, "The hallways are a little bit wider to accommodate better acting. It's not as dangerous. You need wider halls for better acting. The first rule of acting: wide open space. It's not as dangerous of a set. Used to be you put your hand on something, and you came away with blood. … Now it's all very smooth surfaces."

Tudyk, who plays the pilot of the Firefly-class spaceship Serenity 500 years in the future, added: "My bridge. ... The day before yesterday was my first day flying the spaceship. And I got all sorts of new switches. I love the switches and the buttons that light up. And I've got two screens that hang above my head that I never had before that I'll access different things."

Serenity, now shooting in and around Los Angeles and at Universal Studios, picks up the story of the crew of the Serenity and reunites the original Firefly cast, including Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite, Morena Baccarin and Ron Glass. Longtime TV producer Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) makes his feature-film directorial debut with Serenity. Tudyk said the movie has more time and more money to get things right. "The pilot we shot for Firefly was a two-hour pilot. ... I think we made that for $12 million. … And we have $50 million to do two hours now. So [Whedon] can do a lot." Tudyk added: "And we have a lot of support at Universal. They're really happy with what we've done. We're about a month and a half into shooting now, and they're extraordinarily excited. But we all get along so well. I mean, it is ridiculous."  source scifiwire

Gellar Heading Back to Japan
Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar is heading back to Japan to shoot more scenes with her castmates for upcoming thriller The Grudge. From January onwards, the former Buffy beauty spent three months in Tokyo making the feature and instantly fell in love with the nation's culture - making her return this month for additional shots an experience to look forward to. Jason Behr, who plays Gellar's lover in the movie, says, "You're sort of forced to deal with the customs, but it was a great experience, and everyone in Japan was just absolutely wonderful." The movie, which is due to be released in October, tells the story of an American nurse living in Tokyo who is exposed to a supernatural virus which locks its victim in a powerful rage before claiming his or her life.

Firefly Movie Web Site
Over at the official movie website for Serenity, the site's blog has been updated and four photos from the set are ready to be seen. The snaps were taken by Serenity cast member Adam Baldwin and show Summer Glau (River), Alan Tudyk (Wash), a shot of the production's board clapper and Baldwin himself. They're cool because you can get a sense of the similarities (and slight differences) from the Firefly TV series and what we'll get to see in the feature film.

There's also an update from "Dusty Bottoms" that pokes a little fun at what's going on on the set: "The Cast and Crew have finished their location work and now call Universal Studios home. The production occupies four huge sound stages on the lot; three of which are in constant flux with various Sci Fi sets being raised, shot, and broken down. The fourth stage is exclusively home to... you guessed it, Serenity. The rebuilt Firefly class cargo ship is gorgeous. The same, yet different. Everything you loved about the original remains, yet with more detail, richer textures and colors. Walking through the new ship has proven cathartic for many of the cast and crew returning from the series. It took a year, but Joss got his ship back."  Check out the site here     source cinescape

Aussie James Marsters Convention
As you're all aware BDU held their annual Buffy convention last weekend.  600 people swarmed to the convention to see James live in the flesh.  I was one of those few people!  James was on stage for an hour for a Q & A.  He spoke well and was very entertaining.  I then had to wait for 3 hours for an autograph, and another 2 hours for a photo.  I was able to say hello to James and shake his hand on both occasions, but as I was in a state of shock and exhaustion by the time it was my turn with him, I didn't manage to say too much.  If anyone has any photos/stories from the convention that you'd like to share, then please feel free to email me .

Ghost Of The Robot Break Up
To all fans of the band Ghost of the Robot,
After two great years of music making and touring I have decided to dissolve the band Ghost of the Robot. This was not an easy decision to make but one that was thought out thoroughly with consideration to you, the amazing fans and my amazing band mates. There are no bad feelings or creative differences that lead to this decision. I have always given 100% of myself to my craft and I felt that the band and the fans would suffer now that I will be devoting all my time to new film and television projects since “Buffy” and “Angel” are no longer in production. Please know how much I have appreciated everyone’s support of me and of the band. I hope that you will continue to support me in my future film and television projects. This decision will not affect me participating in or attending any conventions. I love the feedback I get from my fans and look forward the next time I see you.

Bell Talks Buffy And Angel
Jeffrey Bell, who co-wrote and directed the finale of The WB's vampire series Angel, told SCI FI Wire that scheduling conflicts and story concerns were the main reasons why Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar won't appear in Angel's final episodes. Angel co-creator Joss Whedon had asked Gellar to appear while Gellar was busy. But when Gellar was available for the final episode, producers opted not to include her, because they didn't want the show's finale to be about Buffy, said Bell, the series co-executive producer.

"Buffy [Gellar] is an aspect of Angel," Bell said in an interview. "It would have been great if she could have come in for one of the last couple of episodes, but not the finale. But Sarah was in Japan shooting her feature [The Grudge] right up until we were shooting our last episode. Joss had asked her if she was available for number 20 ['The Girl in Question'] or number 21 ['Power Play'], and she wasn't. So we wrote number 20 [as] a story that dealt emotionally with Buffy, even though she wasn't in it."

Bell added that the finale, "Not Fade Away," "is about our people and everything we'd been through. And we'd already written about Buffy in number 20. So the ship had sailed and there wasn't a lot we could do about it.

"It would have been great to have her," Bell added. "It would have been a huge ratings boon. The fans would have loved it. But not for the finale. That's not what Angel ultimately is about. We struggled so much to get as many of our stories resolved anyway. I can't imagine having added that to the mix as well." The WB will air "Not Fade Away" in the USA on May 19. source scifiwire

David Greenwalt Directs Again
David Greenwalt, who co-created The WB's vampire series Angel before leaving the show, returns to direct one of the last episodes, "The Girl in Question," which airs on May 5, Zap2it reported.

First ANGEL TV Movie May Hit in September
The WB is working on a new stand-alone telemovie, ANGEL, to air tentatively in September. The first two-hour pic is going to essentially launch the series as a sequence of films - different villain, different storyline, each one.   The first is going to tie-in with the events of the series final episode. The season ender is going to go out with a huge cliffhanger, and we'll have to wait till September to find out how it all ends.

Eliza Dushku is in talks to appear in the telemovies, as Faith, the vampire slayer. Her series TRU CALLING isn't going to be picked up for a second season, so I assume she jumped at it.

There's no titles for these Angel films yet, but all six - bi-monthly over a period of a year - will be something like ANGEL: OUTLAWED, or ANGEL: DOMINION. You get the pic.  What's interesting is, Joss Whedon's not going to have much to do with the first couple. He's apparently doing a movie for Universal. Wonder how that's going to go down with fans?

How valid is this report? Well, Daybill hasn't failed us before, but September seems like too quick a turnaround for a tv movie, although not altogether impossible. It's possible that the first could be filmed after a short break, but I would think that the principal cast would want to get away from these characters for a while.

The finale Daybill speaks of also lines up with an April 17 report from our friends over at Spoiler Slayer, where they said that the series will likely end on a cliffhanger.

Joss Whedon's lack of involvement - I wouldn't be surprised. The movie Daybill speaks of is, of course, the film version of FIREFLY, which is being fasttracked at Universal. However, if these movies go forward, I have no doubt that some of the ANGEL/Mutant Enemy regulars will return.

Updated: The boys and girls over at Whedonesque had a good point that contradicts the report (that I, I'm ashamed to say, didn't think of) - some places have already reported that TRU CALLING will be picked up for another season, even though networks seem to like to mess with executive producers' minds and tell them they're being renewed when they haven't been. Regardless, remember that this report is a rumor. Take nothing as absolute fact until you hear it from the Frog. source mediasharx
