A Scooby-Doo Movie???  Guess who is going to star in it.

How about real-life cutie couple Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar! 

The young "It" couple are in serious talks to costar as young sleuths Fred and Daphne in Warner Bros.' live-action adaptation of the classic kid toon Scooby Doo, the Hollywood Reporter reports. 

Prinze, 24, and Gellar, 23, met while filming the slasher hit I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997. They've been an item practically ever since, and they almost guarantee big box office. 

The gang--Fred (the scarf-wearing leader), Daphne (the clumsy babe), Velma (the geeky tomboy), Shaggy (the goofy hippie) and Scooby (the dog)--will be driving the Mystery Machine to Australia in February for the shoot. Raja Gosnell (Never Been Kissed, Big Momma's House) will direct. 

According to the Reporter, both Prinze and Gellar, who'd be shooting during her Buffy hiatus, have received offers from the studio and are in the midst of negotiating contracts. 

Scooby-Doo, about a band of ghost-chasing sleuths and the Scooby Snack-craving cowardly canine who always stumbles upon the all-important clue, is based on a script by James Gunn. 

The script is described as a comedy-horror feature in the vein of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein or Ghostbusters, where Scooby and the gang must (what else?) save the world. 

The Hanna-Barbera animated series, currently a hit on the Cartoon Network, was put on the fast track in April to become a potential movie franchise for Warner Bros. Most plots from the original series are identical: The kids and Scooby arrive in their van, the venerable Mystery Machine, get chased around by a supposed spook, then unmask the ghoul and foil his/her plot to do wrong. 

Mike Myers parodied the predictable finale in Wayne's World, and at one point was co-writing the script. Gunn was hired in August after Myers and his writing partner, Jay Kogan, withdrew. 

Ironically, Internet rumors say Myers may play Shaggy in the movie.
